Wearing Sunglasses Can Affect Your Pineal GlandMore and more people are wearing sunglasses, even if the sun is not shining bright and I see also that little children (toddlers) have sunglasses on. I remember an article by Dr. Ornstein in the Let’s live Magazine in October 1980 were it is explained that Sunlight is very important, day light is very vital. The Creator provided for our emotional and physical health by giving us the Pineal Gland and commanding “Let there be Light “

The Pineal Gland is an active, secreting gland throughout life. Natural, unfiltered sunlight is necessary for the proper functioning of this gland. Light as conscious electromagnetic energy from the sun enters the body through the optic nerves of the eyes which, in turn, directly stimulates the pineal gland, a photo reactive organ. The pineal gland converts light energy into an electrochemical impulse which feeds directly into the hypothalamus.

The hypothalamus is that part of the brain which mediates all of the vital processes of the body via its immediate and direct connections to the pituitary gland and the autonomic nervous system. The hypothalamus is filled with light sensitive cells which convert the electromagnetic signal of light into a neurochemical impulse which is then carried directly into the pituitary Gland. The pituitary , in turn, elaborates and secretes hormones within the body, thereby maintaining homeostasis. Learning all this makes us think when to wear sunglasses and also not to put them at little children’s eyes.

The eyes are able to adjust to sunlight much more then we give them credit for. When we work in facilities with artificial light during the day then we can agree that people are not getting enough natural light. One statement that Dr. Ornstein made in his article mentioned before.

Another source also questions the correlation between sunglasses and the pineal gland.

In the book Nature‘s Detox Plan – A Program for Physical and Emotional Detoxification By Roy Mankovitz, it is stated that “The downside to wearing sunglasses is that it interferes with a portion of the endocrine system involving the pineal gland, which is light responsive. We do not fully understand the operation of the pineal gland, but from what we do know, you do not want to mess with it.” (page 145)

Limit the amount of time you wear sunglasses because sunglasses limit the light traveling from the eyes to the pineal gland.

Eyeglasses and contact lenses rob you of energy by blocking some of the ultra violet rays that travel through the eyes to the pineal gland, writes Patricia McCormac.

More documentation: The Pineal gland is the switch for the pituitary gland, which controls aging. Melatonin is the key hormone the Pineal gland produces.

More sunlight exposure during the day is one approach for increasing melatonin production. Be sure to take off your glasses including sun glasses when getting sun light because the Pineal gland is stimulated by the light through the eyes.

Back-to-school supplies loaded with toxic chemicals: Report

Some Dora branded school supplies are reportedly loaded with toxic chemicals.

Toxic chemicals linked to asthma and birth defects have been discovered in children’s vinyl back-to-school supplies, a new report claims.

Seventy five per cent of children’s school supplies tested in a laboratory had elevated levels of toxic phthalates, including popular Disney, Spiderman, and Dora branded school supplies, vinyl lunchboxes, backpacks, three-ring binders, raincoats, and rainboots, according to the report, Hidden Hazards: Toxic Chemicals Inside Children’s Vinyl Back-to-School Supplies.

“We found elevated levels of toxic phthalates widespread in children’s school supplies. These chemicals, manufactured by Exxon Mobil, have no place in children’s school supplies.” Mike Schade from the Center for Health, Environment & Justice (CHEJ) and the author of the report, said in a statement Sunday. “While phthalates are banned in children’s toys, similar safeguards don’t exist to keep them out of lunchboxes, backpacks and other children’s school supplies.”

The report says that one product, the Amazing Spiderman Lunchbox, contained an estimated 27,900 parts per million (ppm) of the phthalate DEHP.

“If this were a children’s toy, it would be over 27 times the federal safety limit,” Schade says.

Kathy Curtis, the executive director of Clean and Healthy New York, said the report highlights the fact that “parents can’t assume that a product is safe for their kids simply because it’s on a store shelf.”

Featured Superfood: Beets

Vancouver Nutritionist BeetsIn our quest for health, we are willing to search far and wide for the next ‘miracle’ superfood that will restore our wellness. But my search takes me no further than the backyard. Why would I want to ship some fruit from the other side of the planet which was likely harvested prematurely, thus reducing it’s nutrient content and health benefits, when I can just stroll through a local garden and pick up some of the freshest, nutrient-dense superfoods you can find?!

When we think of superfoods, most people look to the fruit of spring and summer. However, autumn produces many fantastic options for us, as well. Beets are one of my favorites. Not only can you enjoy the rich, buttery flavour of the beet root, but the greens also provide a delicious source of some phenomenal benefits. Here’s a few reasons why beets are one of my preferred superfoods:

Healthy fetal development – Women preparing for pregnancy and expecting mothers are constantly told about the necessity to consume adequate amounts of folic acid (vitamin B9, also known as folate) in order to support the healthy development of the babies nervous system and brain function. Rather than relying strictly on synthetic supplements (which the body may not even be able to assimilate properly), why not simply include foods into your meal which can offer a significant boost of the natural form? Beets, especially the greens, contain a substantial amount of folate.

Fiber – Fiber slows the digestion and absorption of carbohydrates into the blood stream allowing you to maintain blood-sugar levels better. It also helps support optimal elimination of waste. We want to keep things flowing through us efficiently so we don’t get a toxic build-up. Fiber may also play a significant role in maintaining healthy cholesterol and blood pressure levels. We’re living in a time where much of the fiber has been stripped away from our food during processing. It’s time we start including it again by eating food the way nature intended.

Anti-cancer properties – If you’ve ever cooked beets, you know how easily the red pigments can dye your fingers. But did you know this red colour in the beets, called betacyanin, is a powerful anti-oxidant which is shown to help fight off various cancers?

Liver-loverBetacyanin not only fights cancer, but it is also involved in promoting healthy liver function and detoxification. Our livers are one of the most over-burdened organs in our body. So the more we can do to make its job easier, the healthier we’ll be.

Bone support – Although beets are packed with other nutrients, they are exceptionally high in magnesium. Magnesium works synergistically with calcium needed for strong bones. Without the magnesium, calcium could not work its magic.

A variety of other nutrients – Beets are comprised of many other important nutrients including Vitmain C (for a health immune system), Manganese (for bones, blood-sugar, fat & carbohydrate metabolism and much more), and tryptophan (to support better sleep, lower anxiety and improve serotonin production).

Beets can be roasted, grilled, boiled or baked. They can be a fantastic side dish, or mixed directly into the main dish. Heck, you can even use beets to colour your Easter eggs! The uses go on and on.

Including superfoods into your diet shouldn’t be difficult. I encourage you to visit your local farmers market and take a glance at the amazing variety of options right at our finger tips. Even as winter approaches here in Vancouver, the local superfoods are still around.

Fukushima Radiation Release is Worse than You Have Been Told – What You Can Do to Protect Yourself

Japanese Government Minimizes Danger; Ignores Vitamin C

In the fall of 2011, JCIT presented a study that Fukushima workers had abnormality gene expression, which may be avoided using dietary antioxidants, especially vitamin C. The data was presented in Japan, Taiwan, and Korea. The JCIT sent letters to the government urging the government to tell the people how they may protect themselves from radiation. To date, the recommendation has been ignored by Japanese government and TEPCO (Tokyo Electric Power Company).

Linus Pauling gained the Nobel Peace Prize in part based on his calculations of the number of deaths from nuclear weapons fallout.[1] He was supported by physicist and father of the Soviet bomb Andrei Sakharov, who also later received the Nobel Prize for peace.[2] These and other scientists estimated that there would be an extra 10,000 deaths worldwide for each megaton nuclear test in the atmosphere. A nuclear reactor can contain much more radioactive material than a nuclear weapon. Fukushima had six reactors, plus stored additional radioactive material and nuclear waste.

How Radiation Damages Cells

Ionizing radiation acts to damage living tissue by forming free radicals. Essentially, electrons are ripped from molecules. Removing an electron from an atom or molecule turns it into an ion, hence the term ionizing radiation. X-rays, gamma rays, alpha- and beta-radiation are all ionizing.

Most of the damage occurs from ionizing radiation generating free radicals in water, as water molecules are by far the most abundant in the body. While avoiding unnecessary exposure to ionizing radiation is clearly preferable, people affected by Fukushima do not have the luxury of avoiding contamination.

Antioxidants: Free-Radical Scavengers

Free-radical scavengers, as the name suggests, mop up the damaging radicals produced by radiation. The more common term for free radical scavenger is antioxidant. Antioxidants replace the electrons stripped from molecules by ionizing radiation. Antioxidants have long been used in the treatment of radiation poisoning.[3-7] Most of the harm from ionizing radiation occurs from free radical damage which may be quenched by the free electrons antioxidants provide. Fortunately, safe antioxidants are widely available as nutritional supplements. Vitamin C is the prime example.

Why Vitamin C?

Vitamin C is of particular importance and should be included at high intakes for anyone trying to minimize radiation poisoning. High dose vitamin C provides continual antioxidant flow through the body. It is absorbed from the gut and helps to replenish the other antioxidants. When it is used up, it is excreted in the urine. Importantly, it can chelate, or grab onto, radioactive heavy metal atoms and help eliminate them from the body. Large dynamic flow doses of vitamin C (about 3,000 mg, taken 4 times a day for a total of 12,000 mg) would exemplify antioxidant treatment. Higher doses have been used by Dr. Atsuo Yanagisawa and colleagues. [8,9]

Shortly after the disaster, Dr. Damien Downing described how supplements can help protect against radioactive fallout.[10] OMNS issued an update on the response to Fukushima in Japan.[11] Recently, Dr. Gert Schuitemaker has provided a review of vitamin C as a radio-protectant for Fukushima contamination.[12]

Persons living in the areas affected by radioactive contamination can take antioxidant supplements, especially high doses of vitamin C, to counteract the negative consequences of long-term low dose radiation exposure, as well as to protect the health of coming generations.[12,13] People who have a possible internal or external radiation exposure should take antioxidant supplements to maintain an optimal antioxidant reserve. Because of the enormous size and oceanic spread of Fukushima contamination, this literally applies to everyone.

Chief Arvol Looking Horse speaks out concerning Sedona sweat lodge deaths

As Keeper of our Sacred White Buffalo Calf Pipe Bundle, I am concerned for the 2 deaths and illnesses of the many people that participated in a sweat lodge in Sedona, Arizona that brought our sacred rite under fire in the news.  I would like to clarify that this lodge and many others, are not our ceremonial way of life, because of the way they are being conducted. My prayers go out for their families and loved ones for their loss.

Our ceremonies are about life and healing, from the time this ancient ceremonial rite was given to our people, never has death been a part of our inikag’a (life within) when conducted properly.   Today the rite is interpreted as a sweat lodge, it is much more then that. So the term does not fit our real meaning of purification.

Inikag’a is the oldest ceremony brought to us by Wakan Tanka (Great Spirit).

19 generations ago, the Lakota/Dakota/Nakota Oyate (people), were given seven sacred rites of healing by a Spirit Woman ­ Pte San Win (White Buffalo Calf Woman). She brought these rites along with our sacred C’anupa (pipe) to our People, when our ancestors were suffering from a difficult time. It was also brought for the future to help us for much more difficult times to come.  They were brought to help us stay connected to who we are as a traditional cultural People.  The values of conduct are very strict in any of these ceremonies, because we work with spirit.  The way the Creator, Wakan Tanka told us; that if we stay humble and sincere, we will keep that connection with the inyan oyate (the stone people), who we call the Grandfathers, to be able to heal our selves and loved ones.  We have a gift of prayer and healing and have to stay humble with our Unc’i Maka (Grandmother Earth) and with one another. The inikag¹a is used in all of the seven sacred rites to prepare and finish the ceremonies, along with the sacred eagle feather.  The feather represents the sacred knowledge of our ancestors.
Our First Nations People have to earn the right to pour the mini wic’oni (water of life) upon the inyan oyate (the stone people) in creating Inikag’a
- by going on the vision quest for four years and four years Sundance. Then you are put through a ceremony to be painted – to recognize that you have now earned that right to take care of someone¹s life through purification.

They should also be able to understand our sacred language, to be able to understand the messages from the Grandfathers, because they are ancient, they are our spirit ancestors. They walk and teach the values of our culture; in being humble, wise, caring and compassionate.

What has happened in the news with the make shift sauna called the sweat lodge is not our ceremonial way of life!

When you do ceremony – you can not have money on your mind. We deal with the pure sincere energy to create healing that comes from everyone in that circle of ceremony.  The heart and mind must be connected. When you involve money, it changes the energy of healing.  The person wants to get what they paid for; the Spirit Grandfathers will not be there, our way of life is now being exploited!  You do more damage then good.  No mention of monetary energy should exist in healing, not even with a can of love donations.  When that energy exists, they will not even come. Only Œafter¹ the ceremony, between the person that is being healed and the Intercessor who has helped connect with the Great Spirit, the energy of money can be given out of appreciation.  That exchange of energy is from the heart; it is private and does not involve the Grandfathers! Whatever gift of appreciation the person who received the help, can now give the Intercessor what ever they feel their healing is worth.

In our Prophesy of the White Buffalo Calf Woman, she told us that she would return and stand upon the earth when we are having a hard time. In 1994 this began to happen with the birth of the white buffalo, not only their nation, but many animal nations began to show their sacred color, which is white.
She predicted that at this time there would be many changes upon Grandmother Earth. There would be things that we never experienced or heard of before; climate changes, earth changes, diseases, disrespect for life and one another would be shocking and there would be also many false prophets!

My Grandmother that passed the bundle to me said I would be the last Keeper if the Oyate (people) do not straighten up.  The assaults upon Grandmother Earth are horrendous, the assaults toward one another was not in our culture, the assaults against our People (Oyate) have been termed as genocide, and now we are experiencing spiritual genocide!

Because of the problems that began to arise with our rebirth of being able to do our ceremonies in the open since the Freedom of Religion Act of 1978, our Elders began talking to me about the abuses they seen in our ceremonial way of life, which was once very strict.  After many years of witnessing their warnings, we held a meeting to address this very issue of lack of protocol in our ceremonies.  After reaching an agreement of addressing the misconduct of our ceremonies and reminding of the proper protocols, a statement was made in March 2003.  Every effort was made to insure our way of life of who we are as traditional cultural People was made, because these ways are for our future and all life upon the Grandmother Earth (Mitakuye Oyasin ­ All my relations), so that they may have good health. Because these atrocities are being mocked and practiced all over the world, there was even a film we made called Spirits for Sale.

The non-native people have a right to seek help from our First Nation Intercessors for good health and well-being, it is up to that Intercessor.
That is a privilege for all People that we gift for being able to have good health and understand that their protocol is to have respect and appreciate what we have to share.  The First Nations Intercessor has to earn that right to our ceremonial way of life in the ways I have explained.

At this time, I would like to ask all Nations upon Grandmother Earth to please respect our sacred ceremonial way of life and stop the exploitation of our Tunka Oyate (Spiritual Grandfathers).

In a Sacred Hoop of Life, where there is no ending and no beginning!
